Sar-Path was developed in response to the inadequacy of conventional navigation systems during disaster scenarios. It is a web-based route planning application designed for post-earthquake rubble, road closures and hazardous zones — letting users mark these dynamic obstacles on an interactive map to calculate the safest available route.
Beyond setting a start and end point, users can interactively mark zones to avoid directly on the map. The system then computes the optimal route around those obstacles.
One of the project's most significant features is its contribution to situational awareness. Users can upload geo-tagged field photos to the system, sharing ground-level conditions with other users and search-and-rescue teams in real time. This empowers both responders and civilians to make more informed and safer decisions.
